Growth and Innovation: Expansion of Astrea Bioseparations Operations
Published date: 15 August 2024
Having seen our manufacturing volumes double and then double again over the past three years, with no signs of slowing down, we have adopted a modular approach for all future expansions.
Modern workspace for modern needs
In March 2024, we completed the renovation of our office located in the Isle of Man, creating a modern workspace designed to put people first. The new open-plan office space is a versatile environment that fosters creativity and productivity, making it ideal for collaborative projects, effective communication, and flexibility. Flooded in natural daylight and surrounded by private meeting areas for focused work, this space can easily adapt to the evolving needs of our team.
New manufacturing plant
Our new flexible resin and fiber manufacturing plant is set to come online in Q3 2024. This state-of-the-art facility includes cleanrooms that provide significantly larger working spaces, higher quality airflow to protect products, and the highest level of safety for our staff. The plant will also house additional beaders using our fully water-based beading process to meet the growing demand for our resin products.
Designed for future growth, the plant can accommodate additional beaders and cleanrooms with minimal disruption (1-2 weeks downtime for each expansion). We are also future-proofing our operations by adding extra manufacturing space to support continued modular expansion, preparing for a six-fold increase in current volumes, installed just in time. The plant has completely independent services ensure true business continuity.
Column packing cleanrooms
Our new column packing cleanrooms, also set to be completed in Q3 2024, will triple our current column packing capacity. The modular design allows for rapid additions or reconfigurations to meet growing demands. These cleanrooms are equipped to pack columns of any size, due to our diverse range of packing equipment.
Global expansion
Our column manufacturing sites have expanded with the introduction of ISO 9001 standards across all Astrea Bioseparations locations and the replacement of outdated machinery, enhancing both quality and productivity. In the US, we have increased our site footprint five-fold to boost column manufacturing and packing capacity, as well as storage and shipping capabilities for all our products into the US.
